Exposure to other people’s tobacco smoking is term as passive smoking. As smoking is very much harmful for health so second hand smoking or passive smoking is also harmful but generally less concern is given on this fact. Our study purpose was to determine the knowledge, attitude and awareness level of university students regarding passive smoking and also assume the reasons behind smoking. A questionnaire was developed based on those facts we wanted to determine and the survey was done on both undergraduate and graduate students of different departments. A total 502 participants responded to the questionnaire. Majority (82%) of the participants have the basic knowledge about passive smoking. Almost (92%) participants considered passive smoking is harmful for their health. Majority (93%) stated that severe breathing problem can occur due to exposure to passive smoking and (78%) of participants believed that passive smoking can cause lung cancer. Significant percentages (90%) of participants have considered that strict law enforcement should be provided and proper knowledge should be provided to reduce the exposure of passive smoking. It can be concluded that knowledge level of the target population was satisfactory regarding passive smoking but as it is done on only one university so the condition in other environment could not able to determine. In spite of that from our study we can decide that proper law enforcement and more seminar and awareness program regarding the severity of passive smoking exposure should help to improve the situation more.

Ethanolic extract of Asteracantha longifolia have been used to investigate anti-diabetic activity in Long Evans rats. The plant extract was subjected to anti-diabetic study through assessing Disaccharidase activity and six segment method which was performed to assess the amount of sucrose remaining in the GIT at six different positions. In Six Segment method, the amount of sucrose unabsorbed in different GIT segments were evaluated in control rats vs. rats fed with 100mg/kg extract at 30 minutes, 1hour, and 2hour. In assessing the effect of the plant materials on intestinal disaccharidase activity, the amount of unabsorbed sucrose in Pancreatic Enzymes are evaluated in control rats vs rats fed with 100mg/kg extract .The extract caused a significant (p<0.05), dose dependent inhibition of glucose absorption and showed hypoglycemic effects in Long-Evans rats weighing about 100-200 gm. The anti-diabetic effects were estimated by measuring the amount of glucose in the samples collected after the experiment. In conclusion, these observations provide evidence and possible mechanisms of action for the anti-diabetic properties of plant Asteracantha longifolia claimed in Ayurveda medicine.

Mithila, Sadia Noor
The purpose of the study was to explore the knowledge, perception and attitude of university students of Bangladesh, regarding the concept of premarital carrier screening (PMCS). The study was conducted at different universities inside Dhaka City and near Dhaka City through a self-administered questionnaire which was distributed to 513 university going students aged 15 – 30 years. We found that, the majority of the participants (66.47%) had never heard about PMCS. After giving a brief knowledge about PMCS, mostly there was positive attitude toward the program. Almost 90.05% believed that PMCS was necessary and about 61.99% supported the view of making PMCS compulsory. But approximately one fifth (18.52%) of the participants reported that they were totally unwilling to conduct PMCS mostly because of lack of knowledge (50.51%). Overall, despite the relatively low level of knowledge about PMCS, around half of the participants (47.17%) were still willing to conduct premarital carrier screening. Such attitude calls for immediate need for community-based campaigns, Government and non-Government programs to encourage the public to educate people regarding the concept of premarital carrier screening and health issues and to encourage them to do premarital carrier screening tests.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder which affects the adolescent
girls. It affects 5% to 10% of women in their reproductive age. Awareness and accurate
diagnosis is the first step in managing PCOS as it improves quality of life of the patient. The
study was conducted to assess the knowledge on PCOS among the medical students. The
study was performed on 400 female medical students among aged 18 to 28, from August
2017 to October, 2017 using a standard 3 pages structured questionnaire. This study is done
by collecting data, containing different questions and then those data was analyzed by using
Microsoft excel.
In my study, 400 female medical students were analyzed regarding the knowledge and
awareness of PCOS. Students were mostly aged between 21-23 years (49.25%). Among 400
female medical students a majority of the population (66.94%) minimally aware about
PCOS, 2.20% were very aware about PCOS, a majority of the population (48.87%) had no
idea about PCOS. In this study maximum 22% population identified difficulty of pregnancy
as symptoms of PCOS, 19% identified irregular peroids and minimum 4% of population
identified depression as symptoms of PCOS among study of population. Of the respondents,
76.75% perceived that infertility is a major complications, 10.25% population thought that
endometrial cancer can arise from PCOS. In this study the prevalence of PCOS was 22.25%
among 400 students. Among the PCOS affected population, 50.56% had family history of
PCOS. In the study, maximum 43.82% patients were diagnosed by sonogram and minimum
14.61% patients were identified by androgen level. From the study, maximum 33.71% were
identified with frustation and minimum 2.25% were experienced hopeless. From the study,
maximum 6.65% patients were treated for infertility ,minimum 1.2% patients received
treatment for hirsutism. Of this study, maximum 82.02% patients had information of PCOS
from doctor. In this study , In this study, maximum 55% population identified medication as
a treatment option of PCOS. In the present study demonstrated the level of knowledge about
PCOS was insufficient among medical students in Dhaka; cosequently more educational
programes, conferences, awareness programmes ,etc should be designed to provide
comprehensive information and awareness on PCOS among the future doctors.
