Risk Factors of Cardiovascular Diseases: Effect of Smoking on Myocardial Infarction
Md. Thaherul Islam
A myocardial infraction occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is blocked usually, by the sudden formation of a blood clot within a coronary artery, leading to death of part of the heart muscle. Cigarettes' smoking is one of the major rick factors for acute myocardial infarction. Certain components of tobacco and tobacco combustion gases are known to damage blood vessel walls. The body response to this types of injury elicits the formation of atherosclerosis and its progression, thereby increasing the rick of MI. To examine the relationship between MI and cigarettes' smoking in hospital admitted MI patients, we investigated the smoking habit of patients under the age of 90 who had survived a recent myocardial infraction. Other identifiable risk factors included in this study are age, sex, occupation and physical activity. The study was conducted at national institute of cardiovascular diseases, Dhaka

A disease or medical condition is an abnormal condition o f an organ ism that impairs
body functions. An infectious disease is a clinical l y evident illness resulting from the presence
pathogenic microbial including pathogenic viruses, pathogenic bacteria, fungi,
protozoa, multicellular parasites, and aberrant proteins known as prions. pathogens
are to cause in animals andlorplants. Infectious pathologies are also called

Distribution of Diabetes among Patients with Myocardial Infraction

Distribution of Diabetes among Patients with Myocardial Infraction
Sharif, Arnob
Communicable diseases can be .passed from one person to another. Such diseases m􀂍y be
passed through common contact like colds or the flu. Other communicable diseases like
AIDS and hepatitis may only be passed through sexual contact or sharing of infected
hypodennic needles.
Non-communicable diseases are not usuallY passed from one person to another. Such
diseases however may be genetic or environmentally caused, o/ some cases caused by
lifestyle choices like smoking. Over 90 per cent of the world's disease burden occurs in developin,g countries and most is
due to communicable diseases. While chronic diseases, such as heart disease and
diabetes, are on the rise, communicable disease remains the major challenge. HIV and
AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis are important communicable diseases targeted by global
control programs. However, the emphasis on these three epidemics now threatens to
undermine efforts of proven efficacy for the control of other diseases that affect
developing countries, by diverting attention and resources away from them. (Michael
