Abstract:
This dissertation presents Bengali translations of some selected poems of the British poets, Fleur Adcock and U. A. Fanthorpe. In the introductory chapter, this paper discusses the basic requirements that are needed to translate a text. Next, it offers the reasons for choosing these poets, and throws lights on the difficulties faced in translating the poems. The second chapter begins by outlining Adcock's life. It then presents a selection from her poems their translations, and then comments on the
translations. The third chapter presents Fanthorpe's biography, a selection of the poems along with the translations, as well as comments on those translations. The last chapter offers concluding remarks and provides bibliography of the works that has been used as source text. A glossary is also included to this dissertation after the bibliography.
