dc.description.abstract |
A medicinal plant is a plant that has similar properties as conventional pharmaceutical drugs.
Humans have used them throughout history to either cure or lessen symptoms from an illness. A
pharmaceutical drug is a drug that is produced in a laboratory to cure or help an illness.Nature
always stands as a golden mark to exemplify the outstanding phenomena of symbiosis. Natural
products from plant, animal and minerals have been the basis of the treatment of human disease (Verma et al., 2008). Plants have been a major source of therapeutic agents since time
immemorial. The increasing acceptance of traditional herbal systems of medicine in the world
has resulted in the revival of ancient traditions of medicine. Medicinal plants and their
derivatives are thus looked upon not only as a source of affordable healthcare but also as an
important commodity item of international trade and commerce |
