dc.description.abstract Evaluating course nlaterials is gaining an increasing popularity in ELT. Every teaching and learning programme has a syllabus, a detailed outline or plan of items to be covered in a course. For teaching a syllabus, materials provide a very significant role. In this regard, this paper will look into the way materials are designed and the extent to which helps learners reach their goals. This study will aim to elicit some of the salient issues of book content, and to suggest some possible directions for further development. In doing so, this study will take two types of material evaluation: a predictive evaluation designed to make recommendation regarding what materials are to be used and a retrospective evaluation designed to examine materials that have actually been used. There have been significant developments in the theories of materials design and evaluation. With help of this development, the following study will examine how effectively the textbook, English Grammar and Composition, which is used for class 11 and 12 guide learners to towards their goal. en_US
