Lannea coromandelica (family Anacardiaceae) has been investigated for the evaluation of the biological activities. The stem bark and leaf of Lannea coromandelica was extracted with ethanol. The concentrated extract was then partitioned with n-hexane, Dichloromethane and Ethyl acetate and aqueous fraction. The crude n-hexane, Dichloromethane and aqueous fractions of the ethanolic extract of the plant
were subjected to microbiological investigation by the disc diffusion method. Out of all the samples, Dichloromethane soluble partitionates of the ethanolic extract appeared very potent in terms of both zone of inhibition & spectrum of activity. Whereas the n-hexane and aqueous soluble partitionates showed low to moderate activity for some microorganisms. The fractions were subjected to antioxidant test by Total phenolic content, DPPH radical scavenging assay (Quantitative analysis) and IC50, Reducing power assay, Total antioxidant capacity by phosphomolybdenum method, Total flavonoids content.interms of DPPH method we found that potent antioxidant activity with IC 50 3.8 μg /ml,8 μg /ml, 6 μg /ml respectively for DCM fraction, n-hexane fraction of bark and DCM fraction of leaf comparison to the standard IC50 24μg/ml.
The fractions were subjected to thrombolytic activity test , we found that The n-hexane fraction of the ethanolic extract of Lannea coromandelica bark produces poor activity among other extracts. The average clot lysis activity of the fraction is found to be 28.6 1 for volunteer 1 and 22.80 for volunteer 2. Dichloromethane partitionate of Lannea coromandelica bark also produces highest result having average values of clot lysis are 63.383 for volunteer 1 and 58.65 for volunteer 2. The average clot lysis of Dichloromethane partition of Lannea coromandelica leaf fraction is found to be 31.6633 for volunteer 1 and 51.0111 for volunteer 2 comparing the average clot lysis by streptokinase is 55.35849 in volunteer 1 and 50.85403 for volunteer 2. |
