dc.description.abstract An experiment was conducted to determine the antinociceptive effect of methanolic extract of Aegle marmelos bark in swiss albino mice. The nociceptive effect was induced in test animals by administering 0.6% Acetic acid solution intraperitoneally. Control group received normal saline (10ml/kg i.p) and diclofenac (10mg/kg i.p) was used as a reference drug. The result has shown that oral administration of Aeg/e marvelous bark extract (250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg) produced antinociception against acetic acid-induced writhing. The percent inhibition of writhing observed by the bark extract administered at a dose of 250 mg/kg was 73.89% (p=O.O); and that for the dose of 500 mg/kg was 97.34%(p=0.000008); the latter result was even higher than the data showed by the positive control diclofenac (88.49%). Therefore the present results suggest that methanolic extract of Aeg/e marmelos bark may play role in reducing pain or can that methanolic extract of Aeg/e marmelos bark may playa role in reducing en_US
