Abstract:
Conventional single-mode fibers suffer from small core, leading to limited output power due. In order to allow higher output power and improve the influence of external force, currently photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) have overcame the mentioned shortcomings, such as endlessly single-mode operation, large mode area (LMA). These properties provide scaling potential for fiber laser. We present the results of simulation done by COMSOL Metaphysics® , showing that large mode area can be obtained in PCFs. The study is aimed to obtain larger core area using air holes and silica with perfectly matched layer boundary conditions and the designed a model of octagonal photonic crystal fiber. Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCF) has air holes. These air holes create a geometric shape. We have worked on octagonal shape PCF with 8 different pitches. For different pitch value, we got effective mode index (real part and imaginary part) and calculated chromatic dispersion, effective area, and confinement loss. We have studied 4ȝm, 6ȝm, 8ȝm, 10ȝm, 12ȝm, 14ȝm, 16ȝm, 18ȝm pitch with fixed 0.5ȝm air hole diameter for the wavelength range 1.0 to 2.0ȝm and diameter 0.2 ~ 0.5 ȝm with fixed 10ȝm pitch.
