dc.description.abstract Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL) is the second largest power station in Bangladesh. The installed capacity is 777 MW. The power sector in Bangladesh faced numerous problems characterized by lack of supply capacity. The generation of electricity is one of the most complex processes in the world. A lot of steps are needed to be completed to supply the power. In Bangladesh the need of power is 6500 MW. Public and private sector produce 63% and 37% of electricity respectively. Public sector produces electricity through the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL) and Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB). On the other hand, private sector produces power through small independent power producers and rental that government buys at a constant price. BPDB individually produces 46% of the total production. To fulfill this large demand there are many power stations that are being set up throughout the country. This will reduce the load shedding in the long run. In our internship, we have learnt about the whole power plant system. Here, we came to know how a power station can generate power and how they distribute this power around the country. We also learnt the maintenance and the protection system of power system equipments, which are used for generating or distributing power. At APSCL, we have seen the steam power plant, combined cycle power plant (CCPP), gas engine power plant, generator section, control rooms etc. We have also learnt about winding shop, battery room, rectifier room, turbine, boiler, water treatment system etc. en_US
