Abstract:
A quantum Well Solar Cell is a solar cell design that uses quantum dots/well as the
absorbing photovoltaic material. Quantum Well (QW) solar cells have the potential to
increase the maximum attainable thermodynamic conversion efficiency of solar photon
conversion up to about 66% by utilizing hot photo generated carriers to produce higher
photo voltages or higher photocurrents. The main advantage with quantum dots is the
ability to tune the size of the dots for many applications. Their electronic characteristics
are closely related to the size and shape of the individual crystals. In this work we have
investigated four different configuration QW heterostructures including both bunary and
ternary semiconductors such as InAs/GaAs, InSb/GaSb, AlGaSb/InGaSb and
AlGaAs/InAs.
