dc.description.abstract Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine system disorder among women of reproductive age. In PCOS, woman’s hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with periods and make it difficult to get pregnant. If it is not treated, over time it can lead to serious health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. Early diagnosis is necessary for early interventions to minimize the immediate and chronic consequences. This study is an attempt to assess the knowledge and awareness of PCOS in the girl students of a 4 different universities in Narayangonj. 62.75% of the students were not aware of PCOS and 50.5% of the student thought that PCOS is manageable one. Out of 400 students, only 4.75% of students were diagnosed PCOS and out of this, 21.05% of the students had family history about PCOS and 94.73% said that they were informed about PCOS from doctors. 67.25% of the students were aware of irregular period as a common a sign and symptoms of PCOS and 60.25% of the students thought that infertility is a major complication of PCOS. 36.75% of the students thought that exercise could help in prevention of PCOS and out of this 54.42% of the students thought exercise could help in weight reduction. Majority of students around 71.5% of the students mentioned that PCOS can be treated by medication. Efforts need to be given to intensify awareness in the general public about PCOS. From this newly gathered knowledge, individuals may be able to protect themselves from some of the negative consequences associated with PCOS. en_US
