dc.description.abstract Electricity is the basic infrastructure of today's modem development. But unfortunately this is the most painful suffering and crisis of Bangladesh. We are having huge shortage. This shortage will continue for years unless something is done under Crash program. The adverse impact of electricity shortage is enormous. Every sector is affected and our economy is going to sink. At present Experts has opined no improvement of Power supply for next 3-4 years. 1ectric power outages and restrictions on peak-period consumption were a serious problem in mid-1980s, resulting in substantial productivity losses for jute, textile, and other industrial concens. Only 47% population of Bangladesh has access to electricity which is very low ::ompared to other developing countries. This power crisis is slowing down the economic growth of the country. Government and power board authorities worked out a strategy of planned load shedding, which were distributed geographically as equitably as possible to minimize economic disruption. Some industrial concerns adopted off-peak work schedules, operating their factories in the middle of the night instead of in the daytime. The most shocking problem in the power sector has been with the distribution system. The Government of Bangladesh has taken an initiative to categorize the Power Sector in the form of Public Limited Companies. The primary aim of creating DPDC and make it operational in the year of2008 was to provide better consumer service and to improve revenue collection en_US
